Wuhan is the capital city of Hubei Province in Central China. It sits at the confluence of the Han River flowing into the Yangtze River, which divides the city into three parts: Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang, known as Wuhan's Three Towns. It lies in the eastern Jianghan Plain, at the confluence of the Yangtze River and its largest tributary, the Han River and is known as "Nine Provinces' Thoroughfare". Because of its key role in domestic transportation, Wuhan is sometimes referred to as "the Chicago of China" by foreign sources. Wuhan occupies a land of 8569.15 km2, most of which is plain and decorated with a great number of lakes. It has a population of over 11 million.
The 240-hour visa-free transit is one of China's visa exemption policies provided to eligible foreigners coming from selected countries.
